Timeless Recipes Inspired by Our Heritages & Travels

CHEATER MEATBALLS

The name says it all. . . These sausage meatballs are so easy, quick, and extremely tasty that your friends and family will think you spent countless hours making them. We’ll just keep that our little secret!

These have consistently been a big hit at dinner parties and as part of a buffet, served as small bites. They are, of course, equally delicious when added to your favorite pasta, placed on grilled zucchini, or made into sliders. We always use our “Classic Tomato Sauce” with one of our many flavor variations, depending on the occasion or our particular craving.

Instructions

  • Take a sausage link and squeeze about 1 Tablespoon of sausage out of the casing at a time. Roll it in your palms to make a round meatball and place it in a large skillet on the stovetop.
Repeat process until you remove all the sausage from each casing. **You should get 4-5 meatballs per sausage link.
  • Heat pan to meadium-high until the sausage starts to brown. Gently turn the meatballs so that they brown evenly on all sides, cooking for 5-6 minutes total.
  • Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set them on a baking sheet lined with paper towels to remove any excess fat.
  • Wipe out the skillet and place in your favorite tomatoe sauce, or use our “Classic Tomato Sauce”.
Heat the sauce on medium until its hot. Place in the meatballs and simmer for about 10 minutes, so all the flavors come together.
*If you’re doing this a little ahead of a dinner party, place the sauce and meatballs in a baking dish or chafing dish so they stay warm until serving.

Notes

*This has consistently been a bit hit at our parties where the meatballs are part of a buffet where we use the “Greek-Style” version of our “Classic Tomato Sauce” recipe. *You’ll find it in the “Notes” section of the recipe.
